Polished concrete
Real structural concrete, ground and polished. Stunning — if you have a slab that allows it. Existing homes mostly don't: grinding is brutal, height build-up is real, and upstairs it's usually impossible. New builds: genuinely consider it.
Tiles
Proven, cheap per metre, and every tiler on the Coast can lay them. You'll live with grout: cleaning it, regrouting it, and the look of lines across your floor. The format also says 'standard' — which is fine until you want a space that doesn't.
Microcement
2–3mm of hand-trowelled finish over what you already have — concrete, tile, screed, even some sheeting. One seamless surface, no grout, no demolition, indoors and out, walls, floors, benchtops, pool surrounds. The catches: it's workmanship-dependent (the installer IS the product), it's not the cheapest option, and wet areas demand a proper membrane system underneath.
